Maintenance Tip – Drain Your Air Compressor

Many dry fire sprinkler systems rely on a small air compressor to maintain pressure in the pipes. One simple maintenance step can greatly extend the life of that compressor.
Drain the moisture from the air compressor tank regularly.
When air is compressed, it naturally creates condensation inside the tank. Over time, that moisture collects at the bottom of the tank and can cause:
• Rust inside the tank• Damage to compressor components• Moisture entering air lines• Premature compressor failure
Water buildup is common because compressed air naturally concentrates moisture, which then condenses inside the tank.
Most manufacturers recommend draining the tank daily or after use to prevent rust and extend the life of the equipment.
Quick Maintenance Tip
Draining the tank usually takes less than a minute.
1️⃣ Locate the drain valve on the bottom of the compressor tank
2️⃣ Open the valve slowly
3️⃣ Let the air pressure push out any water
4️⃣ Close the valve once the tank is drained
This simple step helps prevent corrosion and keeps the compressor operating reliably.
Why It Matters
On dry sprinkler systems, the air compressor helps maintain system pressure. Keeping that compressor in good condition helps ensure the system operates properly when it’s needed.
